Simplot Australia’s Devonport facility is a key contributor to Australia’s frozen food supply chain, processing more than 80,000 tonnes of produce each year sourced from Tasmanian farms.
As part of their new state-of-the-art frozen bean line, Simplot required a HACCP-Certified lighting solution that delivered high visibility, exceptional hygiene performance and full compliance with food-processing standards.
Tigerlight has supported the Devonport plant across multiple upgrades in recent years, including IP69K battens, Primo 12K Lowbays and Mako Bulkhead lights, and was selected again to engineer a high-performance, food-safe canopy lighting solution for the new processing line.
Key Outcomes
- HACCP-certified, food-safe lighting system
- 600–700 lux delivered across production zones
- Easy-clean, flush-mounted luminaires designed for hygiene-critical areas
The Challenge
Simplot required a lighting system that would:
- Comply with HACCP requirements for food-processing environments
- Achieve 600–700 lux for detailed inspection and processing
- Deliver bright, uniform illumination with minimal glare
- Support rigorous cleaning procedures and hygiene controls
- Avoid the use of glass components
- Fit flush to the ceiling to prevent dust and debris accumulation
- Provide long-term reliability in demanding operational conditions
Lighting Strategy
Tigerlight developed a detailed lighting plan to ensure full compliance and optimal performance. The strategy:
- Used Primo 15K Canopy Lights (15,000 lm) to achieve the required 600–700 lux
- Specified flush-mounted installation for hygiene and ease of cleaning
- Considered unique ceiling restrictions and suggest custom mounting collars where required
This approach delivered consistent brightness, improved safety, and full compliance with HACCP guidelines.
The Solution
Tigerlight supplied and installed Primo 15K 100 W Canopy Lights across the new frozen bean line. Their sleek, flush-mounted design prevents debris accumulation and ensures easy cleaning, which is essential for food-safe production areas. The luminaires deliver 15,000 lumens, a bright 5000 K colour temperature and a CRI greater than 80, providing clear visibility and uniform illumination for processing and inspection tasks.
Implementation
Installation was completed efficiently due to the Primo 15K’s below-ceiling mounting system, which uses a simple four-screw configuration and quick-connect cabling for rapid setup. Tigerlight’s team worked closely with Simplot’s project managers to verify aiming, spacing and lux performance, ensuring full alignment with the photometric design and HACCP requirements.
